A Vintage Window and a Nest...

Hello friends!
Hope you have had a great week so far ..It is almost the weekend!
A few days ago I finished stitching Where Hearts Rest by With Thy Needle and Thread. I didn't have an idea how I would like to finish it, and I searched my basement for a frame but I had nothing.
***Please remember if you copy my finishing ideas that you be considerate and give a link to my blog or facebook page..****
Today I had the idea to put it in a wreath on the vintage window in my family room so that's what i did! I had a small cotton branch wreath there but it just wasn't big enough ..

I mounted the stitching on sticky needlework board and the same for the dark red homespun check. Glued those two together. Then I made a bow out of some twine wired ribbon that I had taken off a Fall decomesh wreath that I was throwing away. I added some of the burlap ribbon with the aqua center ..then took a nest from my Spring decorations and glued it to the top of the bows. I converted the floss to mostly Classic Colorworks in the colors ..Colonial Rose.. Calico Kitty .. Manor red.. Wagon wheel.. Polliwog.. Olive Branch.. Rain Shower.. Khaki Mocha.. Hazelnut ..I also used Weeks Olive

I added some of the thistle balls and also some little daisy looking flowers. I Added a strip of the homespun fabric for hanging and there it is ..Done .. and I love it! ( of course I do or I wouldn't be showing you!)
I will be back tomorrow with another finish!

I love black and white gingham!

Good morning..happy Friday!
I do love black and white check..
I have a couple little spring bunny finishes to show you..
I made some changes to this Lizzie Kate ..I used DMC black for the letters and 3865 for the white. The little bunny on the top I found on a Prairie Schooler chart and the one towards the bottom I just stitched and I think he turned out pretty cute!
I finished it into a 99 cent Goodwill frame that I added some pink gingham to the mat board that was inside the frame and mounted my stitching onto sticky board. Black gingham bow and a pink gingham covered button finish it up... I have it in the oval shaped tiered tray in my family room..
Isn't it C-U-T-E !
Next up is this April Lizzie Kate.. I changed the colors (you can see what I used in the photo) and it is just adorable..
I am loving these little pieces to add into my vignettes..and of course it's on black and white gingham! I have done February, March and April of these and have a magnet on the frame and a small piece of sheet metal on the back of each stitched piece to change them out.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Aqua, Red Checks and a Bunny!

Happy Saturday!
Do you love it? I sure do!
This is With Thy Needle and Thread Easter Peep Parade.. I tea/coffee dyed some 28 count evenweave but it wasn't dark enough so then I used Chocolate brown Rit liquid dye ..It is a little bit mottled and I love how all these threads look on the dark brown..  I only had one of the called for threads so I substituted  different hand dyed flosses and did the bunny in DMC..

I found this wood piece at Michael's yesterday . I painted it ( the same color as my kitchen Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams ) and added a brown glaze to the top. I also found the little filigree scroll at Michael's and glued it on.

I only had one piece of the sticky needlework board ( OhMyGosh how am I out!?! )and knew I wanted a red gingham border on the piece so I ripped red gingham and gathered it by hand and glued it to the back of the piece. Glad I was out of the sticky board :) I added cream lace to the back to hang it and also a bow to the top with a gingham covered button for an accent . I also added magnets to the board and small pieces of sheet metal to the back of the stitching so I could change out the design for another seasonal piece.
It's so hard to get a good photo because it is dreary as can be here but I was way too excited to wait to show you all! I hung it in the foyer from the green cabinet ..I haven't decided if I will keep it here or put it in the kitchen .. all I know is I love it!
Hope you have a great weekend!

Rabbits and Chickens ..Oh MY!

Happy Sunday!
I finished stitching these two pieces this week and got them fully finished today.. The first is Springtime Social from With Thy Needle and Thread. It's stitched on 28 count tea/coffee dyed evenweave..I found this pedestal frame at Michael's .. it is a pretty tall one..
I mounted the stitching on sticky needlework board.. Then mounted green gingham on another piece of sticky board.. glued the two pieces together.. added a couple magnets to the back and stuck it to the board.
This little bunny is from Prairie Schooler Book number 52.. I stitched him on black 28 count evenweave. I had found this frame at the Goodwill..I added black gingham to the back of the frame ...and mounted the stitching on sticky needlework board. I used magnets on top of the gingham and a small piece of sheet metal to the back of the stitching.
I also added some mini pom pom trim around the back of the stitching. The frame was gold so it got a coat of off white chalk paint ..and then I glued black gingham ribbon around the frame with white ric rac on top. A gingham bow and covered button finish it off..
Seems like every time I finish something I need to rearrange all the spring vignettes!

The bunny only took a couple hours to stitch and the rooster with the chicken on his back took a couple nights worth of stitching.

It's a Bunny Basket!

Good morning!
We have been having snow and cold for the past few days ..so what better to do than stitch!
I finished this With Thy Needle and Thread Spring Delivery last night and finished it for display this morning..
I have this thing for buying these little picnic hampers at Thrift stores.. I have a stack of them in the foyer and also this one was on a table in the living room with a bunny plate displayed on top. Yesterday I walked by it and thought the bunny I was stitching needed to be on the basket!
I mounted it on sticky needlework board.. then mounted that on another sticky board covered with green gingham on the bias.( 0f course) :)
I made a bow out of burlap looking ribbon and added a bow from lace which I glued the tails to the back of the mounted stitching to hang it from ( I didn't glue it to the hamper ,it is tied to the lock on top so if I decide to stitch another piece for the basket I can switch it out) Always thinking ahead!
I displayed it on top of the vintage scale in the foyer ..added some faux cotton branches to the top and I am in love! It is stitched on 28 count tea/ coffee dyed evenweave.. most of the called for threads were used I did substitute a few similar colors.

Spring Stitchy Clipboard

 Good morning!
Last week I was in Michael's and happened top wander into a clearance section and they had these cute clipboard frames for $6.00.
I knew instantly that I wanted to use it for these Country Cottage Needleworks patterns ..( don't mind my bent pattern ..The dog sat on it ) and just not stitch the bottom portion. I wanted the colors to be not so bright so I did change all of them except the browns. I stitched it on my go to for everything  :) tea/coffee dyed 28 count Monaco. ( colors I used are ecru,964,3849,224,223,3347,987) I used 1 strand of ecru and 1 strand of 964 to do the insides of the windows..and 1 strand of yellow and one of ecru to do the insides of the flowers.
I love the grey pattern in the back and also the chippy white board it sits on..

I mounted the stitching on sticky needlework board ..then cut a mat a little bigger and used green gingham on that piece .Glued the 2 together and added brown gingham covered buttons.

The pattern sitter .. I started and finished this on Sunday ..it was really fast to stitch up !

Spring.. Seasons in Chalk

Good morning!
Spring has sprung! Okay not really but it has in the April 2016 Just Cross Stitch Magazine!
Here is the 2nd edition of the Seasons In Chalk Series with Hands On Design..

My chalkboard in the wider frame and Cathy's ( Hands On Design) stitching in the smaller frame..Hard to tell the difference! Cathy did an amazing job charting the design!

I did mine on 28 count black Monaco ..Her stitching is on the called for fabric ..

Mine is mounted again on a chalkboard inside an Estate sale find paint by number frame ..I use magnets on the chalkboard and small pieces of sheet metal on the back of the stitching ..So easy to change it out..

The first in the series Winter ..
