Red, White and Blue In the Foyer

Good morning ! I can't beleive it's July 1st already ! Summer is just flying by ! I stitched up this little piece last night , its a Sampler Girl design ..I mounted it on needlework board , then onto a red gingham covered piece. I then glued it to the wood shape painted with chalkboard paint.
I painted a few mason jars with homemade chalk paint ..tied them with the red gingham fabric ..and added a couple little flags.
I have another chalkboard sitting on a wrought iron plant holder filled with faux daisies..
Love these mason jars ! I didn't feel like looking for sandpaper in the garage so I just used a butter knife for distressing :)
Love this little patriotic display in my foyer !

Apple Pizza And a Corner Hutch

We went apple picking this weekend .. It was honeycrisp apple day , they are so good that we waited in line for an hour to pick them !
We got to the orchard at 8 am and this was the line .. they opened at 9 ..
There are tons of apples on these little tiny trees !

The youngest grandson enjoyed the apples ! I had to make one of our family favorite desserts ( and its easy ) when I got home.. I use a package of frozen puff pastry.. thaw it out ..then roll it out a little bit with a rolling pin.( I don't grease the pan )
I peel and cut up the apples( about 5 cups for 2 pieces of puff pastry ), add about 1/2 cup sugar ( my apples were pretty sweet so I didn't use much sugar ) , 2 Tbsp. of flour ,1-2 tsp.of cinnamon ,1/2 tsp. salt .lay the apples on the pastry and fold the edges up about 1/2 inch. Then add about a Tbsp. of butter to the top just crumble it in pieces. Bake at 400 degrees , start checking it at about 20 minutes ..these  took about 35 minutes . Cool it a little, sprinkle with powdered sugar, then use your pizza cutter to cut into squares. sometimes we use whip cream on top or ice cream or just plain !

Remember last year when I bought the corner cabinet on craigs list ? I was going to paint it and use it in my kitchen , but then I decided to use my old hutch . My middle son and his girlfriend are going to use it in their apartment , so we painted it.

Aqua on the inside and white on the outside. We made the homemade chalk paint again ..what a transformation ! I paid $80.00 for the cabinet and we used paint we already had .We painted over all the hardware ..love how it turned out !

They have a white dining table so this will match perfectly !

This Saturday is our annual Pumpkin Picking Day ! I cannot wait ! You can read about last years pumpkin picking here !
I would love for you to follow me on Instagram , Link in the sidebar..I am sure I will have lots of instagram pics on Pumpkin Picking Day !

Chelsea's Coral Vanity

Good Morning ! Hope you all had a great long weekend !  Out in blogland , I saw this coral painted vanity ..So when my daughter bought her house I said remember that coral vanity :) It took an afternoon and as you can see by the before and after it looks fabulous !

We used the homemade chalk paint recipe of 3 parts paint to one part plaster of paris and water. This did take 3 coats. We had already painted the walls in the bathroom a pale grey color , and she has a pale grey ruffled shower curtain.. She used the original hardware that she spray painted with the hammered finish . Today we are supposed to get started painting the kitchen cabinets . We are also going to make a roman shade for her dining area ... I found directions on Pinterest and can't wait to see if it works !

This Friday we got a huge storm that knocked our power out for 22 hours ! There was so much tree debris in the yards , lots of trees and branches down ..we weren't supposed to get power back until Sunday night , but luckily we got it back on Saturday.  We ended up renting a generator to keep our refridge and freezer working ,and just in case it rained again that it could run the sump pump. Totally not fun ! I  could not have lasted in pioneer times :)

I have made some progress on the big flower blanket .. I love it .. Even though its only 3 colors I am not bored with it yet ! I have 6 rows completed ..

I finished this Lizzie Kate ornament Sunday , for #santasundayxs on Instagram

and also finished this October wordplay .. I also started September .. I need to get some finishing done on all the cross stitch pieces I have completed .

My zinnias are growing fabulously .. I was so glad the winds did not wreck any of my gardens.. These zinnias are at least 4 feet tall .. some are close to 5 feet..

It is quite enjoyable to be able to pick them for vases ! I am sure going to miss them when the growing season is over !

Have a wonderful day ! Hopefully I will be back soon with some kitchen cabinet makeover pics :)

Big Blackberries , Moving ,and The Beach

Good Morning :)

Look at the size of these !The blackberries are HUGE ! We have just been starting to get some ripe ones the past few days.. The weather must be perfect for them this year , because they are doing amazing ! I am having great luck with everything in the garden except my green beans..

Yesterday was closing on her first house and moving day for my daughter ..
You can see her chalk painted chairs , table and a hutch we painted a couple years ago..in her dining room. Not sure what is going to happen with that louvered door cabinet ... Everything got moved in and most everything put away .

I am going to miss my garden next week , because we are off to the beach ! I hope everything stays alive !
Have a great weekend ! I am off to pack :)

Thanks for stopping by and your nice comments !

Chelsea's Chairs

Good Monday morning ! Hope you had a great weekend ! My daughter is buying her first house, she closes this Wednesday ! She is very excited.. We have been going to church rummage sales , estate sales and thrift shops, buying things to fix up for her new home.. We got 4 of these pretty chairs at a church rummage sale for $15.00 each.. they are sturdy chairs from a bank in town ( they had a sticker with the banks name on them)
She is going with a beachy color scheme in the kitchen ,family room ,dining room areas.. so she painted them this pretty green color. She used Behr paint and primer mixed with plaster of paris and water to make chalk paint..It took 2 coats but they look amazing !

You can see the ugly fabric that used to cover the seats in this photo.. She used a soft paisley print that has a couple colors of aqua, light greens and tan..The fabric came from Joann Fabrics. For the chairs , the paint and the fabric it was under $90.00 ..

This is the table that she will use with the chairs. We got this oak table at a different church rummage sale and painted it off white.. I will show more photos of her dining are when she gets settled in. There is some work to be done in her new house.. she's putting wood floors in , and she needs a new sliding glass door and of course painting the walls and trim.

I am working on the August Country Cottage Needleworks cottage .. Love how it looks on the evenweave fabric .. so glad I took the plunge !

Chalk Painting

Hope you all had a great weekend !
I bought this cabinet last year at an estate sale for $25.00 .. It went into our living room, then at Christmas it went up to my bedroom where it sat until we painted it..
We left the top as is , its in good condition, and painted the bottom this pretty aqua blue..

We used some darker paint in all the details so they would show.. I got new knobs for it at Hobby LObby .. they look like they were made for it.. The big problem is that we never opened the drawer.. and can't get it open to put the new knobs in ! I think I am just going to glue them on !!

We used this chalk paint recipe. One coat of paint was all it took. I used a paint and primer from Menards.

Have you ever made homemade ravioli ? It is so good.. I have an attatchment for my kitchenaid mixer that rolls the dough, so we don't have to use the crank roller anymore.. I made alot and froze them on cookie sheets and put them in zip loc bags, then back in the freezer.. I make a mixture of ground beef, Italian sausage and romano cheese.. They are amazing . My kids just slurp them up :)

Thank you as always for all your nice comments and for visiting my blog ! I appreciate each and every one of you ! Have a great day !
