It's Fall on the Mantel

Love this time of year ! Fall is in the air in our home !
I made this Fall bookpage banner last year , I wasn't going to use it again but it still looked good so up it went!

I used alot of the sweater pumpkins I made the past two years from thrift store sweaters, and the Harvest sign I just freehanded on an old board.

A galvanized bucket of hydrangeas from the yard, glitter pumpkins from Walmart ,berry garlands and leaf garlands.

I think I got the burlap glittered sunflowers at Hobby Lobby last year on clearance.

I love the sparkle of the glittery sunflowers and pumpkins..with the rustic boards and bucket.

I will be back with more Fall in our home tomorrow !

Owl Ornaments And The Owl Tree

Owls are such a big thing now , I had to trim a tree with them ! This tree sits on the stairs going upstairs.. Usually it is trimmed with felt Santa's and snowmen. Its a 4 ft. tree , and there are no lights on this one since there's no outlet .

I started with some snowflake burlap I got at Michaels. I wove that through the tree , made a bow for the tree topper and added pinecones and lots of snowflake ornaments. At an estate sale a month or so ago I got all those white berry picks , and used those too..

I hopefully will be able to find some more cute owls to add to the tree in the weeks before and after Christmas !

I made all the crocheted owls from this pattern ... I changed the pattern since I thought they were too big for my tree and also I wanted them in different sizes.

I used button for a couple of their eyes and also just crocheted their eyes.

For my owls, use Size G hook and worsted weight yarn... I chained 3 slip stitch for a circle.. Round 1 ..12 sc in circle. Round 2 ..sc in first stitch 2 sc in next repeat around (18) stitches. Round 3 .. sc in next 2 , 2 sc in next around. ( 24 stitches. Keep crocheting your rows until you get the desired size owl.. to close and make the ears ..hold the front and back together , do a half dc in first stitch ,sc in next 6 stitches slip stitch 2 rows down ..stuff your owl kind of loosely.. then sc to the last stitch where you do a half dc. Pull up on the ends a little so the points for their ears show. For the eyes ..chain 3 slip stitch to form ring. chain 3 , 11 dc in ring .slip stitch to top of chain 3 . Slip stitch in first 6 stitches then sc in last 6 .When you sew the eyes on the owl the sc part should be on top like an eyelid. Either sew or glue buttons in , or chain 2 ( I used brown ) then 5 sc in first chain slip stitch and leave a tail for sewing. For the nose I used pale yellow, chain 3 ..sc in last 2 chains , turn 1 sc in last stitch , turn slip stitch in last stitch. leave a tail for sewing.

Halloween Tour 2013

Its time for my Halloween Home Tour ! To start this fabulous season , we went pumpkin picking ! We have 95 pumpkins and a lot of gourds on the front porch and surrounding the planting beds...

Our front door decorated for Halloween with decomesh garland and wreath ..

I made this picket fence Halloween Countdown for the front porch ..

The porch is decorated with scarecrows , mums and pumpkins..

The foyer is decorated with sweater pumpkins, cross stitch Halloween pieces, subway art, that big glittery pumpkin,and scarecrows..

The kitchen got a huge update by painting this hutch.. we also got new chairs at an estate sale.. I made a couple Halloween vignettes in the kitchen.

I used a lot of chalkboards in my Halloween decorating and this one is in the kitchen. My little white shelf is decorated with a cross stitch pieces , a few thrift store finds and a couple craft show pieces..

Another vignette with some sweater pumpkins , and the top of the hutch a garland and chalkboard decorate the rooster area !

In the family room I decorated the mantel .. I made a new subway art, and made the Spooky banner from chalkboard painted pieces. I even used chalk paint on real pumpkins :)

On this side table I have my favorite Halloween cross stitch, a book page pumpkin , and a couple Halloween characters..

My Hallmark ghosts, a chalkboard sign and a ghost doll on a ceramic cake plate top my vintage cabinet.. I made the Spooky banner with my cricut ..

In the Dining room , I added this cross stitched piece to the buffet cabinet..

Some sweater pumpkins , and this easy fall table runner.

I have a decomesh garland above the hutch, inside the hutch are some pumpkins and hydrangeas.

Halloween In The Foyer & A New Mirror

Today I am sharing more of our Halloween decorations! .. this time in the foyer. Since we did the remodel in the spring I have wanted a mirror to go above the table in the foyer. On Friday we found this one at Homegoods , and I think its perfect..

It is off white , distressed , and perfect :) ! On our stair railing I added some small Halloween signs with the leaf garlands and berry garlands.

I found the picnic basket at an estate sale for $5.00 .. I added 2 scarecrows scarecrow , fall garland and a big sweater pumpkin..

When we were painting the oak hutch for the kitchen , we also gave the table a new coat of paint.. On the table , I have a big glitter pumpkin on top of a candle holder, a wire cloche, and a couple new cross stitched pieces. Some little sparkly jack-o-lanterns , sweater pumpkins and of course a silver tray :)

This is what you see when you enter our house now.. Before the remodel there was a wall on the right, and the doorway to the kitchen was smaller. Now its totally open into the living room.

This weekend we headed down to Kentucky to the Alabama @ U.K. game.. The stadium was packed! Since our son is on the team ( he is a redshirt) he gets 4 tickets to each game.

There he is #90 on the sidelines.. It was great to see him and a fun 2 days !

Halloween Mantel 2013

Here is our Halloween mantel for this year . I have changed it 4 times :) and I think its finally where it will stay ! I used a leaf garland, berry garland, purple and black tulle , and black and white check burlap ribbon for the garlands.

I made this spooky banner out of wood pieces and ribbon I got at Joann Fabrics ..

Painted them with chalkboard paint and used chalk to make a #spookyspaces banner ! I glued ribbon to the top of each board , then used a branch from the yard and glued the ribbons to it. This was a really inexpensive project , the little wood pieces are only 79 cents each !

The pumpkins are real , I needed a couple pumpkins for the mantel and why go buy fake ones when you have 95 of them in your yard ? I painted the stripes with chalk paint and added crystal glitter .. The Boo pumpkin is white and I used chalkboard paint and glitter. The little Boo sign is another wood piece I painted with chalkboard paint. The candlesticks that the pumpkins sit on were orange and black with a Halloween pirate theme , so I painted them with chalk paint ..

I made the subway art with foam stamps, acrylic paint and puffy paint on an old board.

On the fireplace hearth I have this galvanized faux olive bucket , filled with branches. A thrifted silver tray , glued to a stick, was chalkboard painted in the center. I am so loving the whole chalkboard craze !

On the sofa table I have a couple candlesticks topped with a velvet pumpkin , and a couple Halloween characters.. A little blue wooden box holds a book page pumpkin and some gourds .

My favorite cross stitch is out for the season on a silver tray with a couple little pumpkin gourds..

I hung the spooky banner I made a couple years ago on my chalk painted buffet.. I used my cricut to make this banner.

I made this ghost doll , folded her legs up and placed her on this ceramic cake stand. Added a couple glitter pumpkins and a couple real pumpkin gourds ..on a silver tray.
