She's A Grand Old Flag

Good morning all my crafty friends!
I finished the stitching on Flagmaker last night ( its a free chart from the Notforgotten Farm blog) and couldn't wait to see if it would be the right size for this pedestal frame!

I found this pedestal frame at Hobby Lobby ..It started out as a clock for $29.99 but was 80% off for $6.00 .. I removed the clock parts and added my stitching!

The burlap flower came on the clock ..I ripped it off and glued it back on and added a coordinating covered button.
Isn't she cute ? I did backstitch thread through the needle off of the spool ..That was the only change I made. It is stitched on 28 count tea/coffee dyed evenweave...
I used 2 magnets on the frame and sheet metal on the back of the stitching so I will be able to use the frame for other stitched pieces..

In the Garden.. June26,2016

Good morning!
Thought I would take you on a walk through my garden on Sundays.. I love blue hydrangeas ..but our soil here turns them pink so I can't believe this one is still blue ..It was planted last year ..
An old bird bath base my son brought home from somewhere.. with a thrifted galvanized bucket on top..and of course more hydrangeas!
These annabelle hydrangeas are huge this year!
More of the blue hydrangea with some of the galvanized buckets of annuals..
These Annabelle hydrangeas are by our garage.. My neighbor gave me little pieces of his 3 years ago.. and they are also huge!
On our back patio table this thrifted basket is just popping with violas!I had planted them in this basket last year and they reseeded themselves and are popping out thru the wicker ,,isn't it just the cutest!

That was 4 years ago after the evergreen bushes were removed.. ..below is now .. I like "now" much better! :) Hard to believe it is the same spot!
The bee balm is starting to bloom !
Have a great day!

Pinks and Orange Granny Square Blanket

Happy Friday!
I am so excited I am finally finished sewing in all the ends on this granny square blanket! Woohoo!
This is for my son in California girlfriend..She chose the colors and I love the way it turned out!Isn't it just so pretty!

There are 13 granny squares across and 15 rows down.. Look at all those ends.. and a sleepy pup!

Flower Granny Square Pattern

To make the granny squares .. chain 3 with size H hook. join to first chain to form a ring..
chain 2 ( counts as first DC) then do 7 double crochets in ring ..slip stitch to top of the first chain 2.

there will be  8 spaces in the circle.

Join new color..
Chain 2( counts as first DC) 2 double crochets in the first space.. then 3 double crochets in the remaining 7 spaces..Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2
It should look like a flower at this point.

Join next color.
you will do this next round in between each flower petal.
chain 2 do 2 double crochet..chain 1 ,3 more double crochet all in the first space which makes a corner.. next space 3 double crochet.. next space 3 double crochet, chain 1 ,3 double crochet which makes another  corner ..continue alternating until you have 4 corners.. join to the top of the first double crochet..

I use a join as you go method to connect the squares ( all the white on the blanket) and you can click HERE to get those instructions..

The border is a row of single crochet ..2 rows of half double crochet and another single crochet row.. to make the little ruffles I slip stitch around the post ,chain 3 ,skip a stitch then repeat .I did that in the last single crochet row and the first half double crochet row.. I used a size H hook and the yarn is from Hobby Lobby I love this yarn except for the orange which was a different brand .

There are 3 colors of pink , the orange and lots of white..

It's The First Day of Summer

Good morning ! Happy first day of summer!
I started stitching this Prairie Schooler Summer Breeze last year and finished it this year .. I kept going back and forth on how to display it and then realized it would fit in the hanging tray I had used for 2 other Prairie Schooler designs..
Prairie Schooler Santa's Night
But it didn't look good on the dark grey background.. When I bought this tray 2 years ago at Hobby Lobby it was red and had a saying in the middle .I spray painted it this greyish black color..
I bought some off white spray paint and painted it but I didn't like it because it was a little shiny ..so I borrowed some of my daughters Annie Sloan chalk paint and this is how it turned out..It worked great on the tray ..I did use 2 coats to cover the dark grey..
I mounted it on sticky board and also made another piece mounted on needlework sticky board for the back and covered it in green gingham on the bias of course :) I glued both pieces together and then used magnet tape on a roll to glue to the back to stick to the frame.
So there you have it.. another summer piece on display!

A Little Summer

 Good morning!
Summer from Country Cottage Needleworks was one of my 15 Stitchmaynia starts ..and here it is all finished!

I only stitched the top half of the chart just like Spring ..I had found this frame on clearance at Michael's and thought this was the perfect series to stitch for it ..
It is on display in my kitchen on top of a vintage scale with a big white bowl filled with daisies and little flowers..
I used red gingham on the bias for the background ..both pieces get mounted on sticky needlework board then hot glued togther,.. I covered little buttons with yellow gingham.. all colors of floss are as charted and I used 28 count tea/coffee dyed glass blue Monaco, evenweave..
Isn't it just so c-u-t-e!

June is Finally Finished!

Good morning!
I F-I-N-A-L-L-Y  finished June from the Prairie Schooler .. This one seemed to take me forever! It really didn't but that's my excuse ! Lol! This was one of my Stitchmaynia starts ..This is the 4th finish of the 15 starts.. It is stitched on 28 count evenweave Monaco that has been coffee and tea dyed..
Some of the flowers were charted to be stitched in a lavender floss and I stitched them and ripped them out and used one of the pinks..I am just not a lavender person. I think it is adorable .. and I am so happy that July is already finished since I stitched it years ago!
I used the same pedestal frame from Michael's ..and on the back of the stitching is a piece of sheet metal and on the frame is a magnet for me to change them out every month.
You can see March , April and May by clicking on them ..It is displayed on the chest in the foyer with Country Cottage Needleworks June cottage..

A Red ,White and Blue Stitchmaynia finish!

Happy Monday!
I finished stitching this Barbara Ana freebie( from Star Spangled Stitchers group on Facebook ) last week .. I wanted to get it finished up and on display! This was one of my Stitchmania starts last month..
I got this frame at the Goodwill for 99 cents and painted it with chalkboard paint .. I used the backing of the frame to put the red gingham on .. I used a magnet on the gingham and a small piece of sheet metal on the the back of the stitching . Just in case I have a small design at Christmas I could change it out..I stitched it on 28 count tea/coffee dyed evenweave.. It's displayed in a thrift store gingham lined picnic basket ..
