Sweater Pumpkins

 Good morning ! Today I am sharing my sweater pumpkins ! I made some last year that you can see here .. I wanted some cream colored sweater pumpkins , so I went to the Good Will and got a cream colored sweater. You can make a lot of pumpkins from one sweater.

 I saw the aqua sweater and knew I needed some aqua pumpkins too.. To make them you need some sticks from the yard , or real dried out pumpkin stems, the sweaters, stuffing, some thin wire and twine..and a hot glue gun ..I use a big sewing needle and heavy duty thread.

 You can see where I cut the sleeves into pieces .. each of those becomes a pumpkin..

 

Both of these sweaters had necks that I used too, for a pumpkin.. for the blue one I buttoned it up and just used it like that , so that pumpkin has buttons down one side.

 I got 4 out of 1 sleeve..Last year when I made them I used the whole body of the sweater to make bigger pumpkins.. This time I cut the body into 4 pieces and just sewed a side seam on each of those pieces... the more detail and cables on a sweater makes for cuter pumpkins..

To make a pumpkin , take one of the sleeve pieces , turn inside out..gather the bottom up with needle and thread...
Turn right side out , stuff as full as you want ..Then use your needle and thread to gather the top. before you pull your thread tight , place a piece of branch in the top for the stem. after you gather it and have it sewn shut , you can use hot glue to secure it. I took my needle and make the little indentations on the pumpkin by wrapping the thread around in three different places..  The you can add your little curly cue or leaves with hot glue.

 For the little curly cues , I took wire , put some hot glue on it , then wrapped it in thin jute. I then took the wire and wrapped it around a glue stick to get the curly shape.I added book page leaves to the ends , which I think I am going to change out to burlap.

 You can see in this photo how the thread is used to sculpt the pumpkin.

 I think they are so cute , and if you have sweaters in your closet that you can use that makes it even better :)

Halloween In The Foyer & A New Mirror

 

 

 Today I am sharing more of our Halloween decorations! .. this time in the foyer. Since we did the remodel in the spring I have wanted a mirror to go above the table in the foyer. On Friday we found this one at Homegoods , and I think its perfect..

 It is off white , distressed , and perfect :) ! On our stair railing I added some small Halloween signs with the leaf garlands and berry garlands.

 

 

 I found the picnic basket at an estate sale for $5.00 .. I added 2 scarecrows scarecrow , fall garland and a big sweater pumpkin..

When we were painting the oak hutch for the kitchen , we also gave the table a new coat of paint.. On the table , I have a big glitter pumpkin on top of a candle holder, a wire cloche, and a couple new cross stitched pieces. Some little sparkly jack-o-lanterns , sweater pumpkins and of course a silver tray :)

 This is what you see when you enter our house now.. Before the remodel there was a wall on the right, and the doorway to the kitchen was smaller. Now its totally open into the living room.

 This weekend we headed down to Kentucky to the Alabama @ U.K. game.. The stadium was packed! Since our son is on the team ( he is a redshirt) he gets 4 tickets to each game.

 There he is #90 on the sidelines.. It was great to see him and a fun 2 days !

Fall and Halloween Chalkboards

Love, love, love chalkboards !

I have loved using chalkboards in our Fall and Halloween decorating this year ! This thrifted frame hangs on the wall into our kitchen from the family room.. I am going to change it out for the seasons.

 

 This rectangle silver tray , from Good Will , got chalkboard paint in the center and is now sitting in a silver bucket with some branches from the yard.

 I got these two little wood pieces at Michaels , gave them a coat of chalkboard paint , and here they are .. I think they will be used at Christmas time too. I even used chalkboard paint on a real pumpkin , wrote the word BOO , and added crystal glitter to it !

 For our mantel I used these wood pieces ( from Joann Fabrics) painted them with chalkboard paint and used ribbon and a big stick from the yard to make this spooky banner.

 On top of the kitchen hutch , I have another silver tray , painted with chalkboard paint in the center .. You can see the before and after of our old oak hutch :)

Love the off white painted cabinet so much better ! My Halloween kitchen and hutch makeover can be seen here..

 I used this small silver tray , chalk painted in the center for my Picket Fence  Halloween Countdown sign .

 In the foyer I have a large vintage white chippy toolbox , that's filled with gourds, florals and sweater pumpkins.. This board came from Michaels and got a coat of chalkboard paint..

 Here is another silver tray on our kitchen counter.. I used chalk paint and just wrote the word Fall..simple but so cute ! You can see more of our Fall kitchen here..

Halloween Cross Stitch Finishes

I thought I would share some of my Halloween crosss stitch finishes..Beggars Night was mounted on sticky board and then attatched to this chevron frame with the clip that is attatched to it. I got the frame at Hobby Lobby. Oct. Jack is mounted then attatched to a fabric back I put in this 50 cent thrift store frame , that I spraypainted black.

 

  

I finished stitching Ghoul Tidings this week , it is from the Just Cross Stitch special Halloween issue .. Its from Plum Street Samplers. I framed it in a frame from Hobby Lobby and added the floral pick to the top.

Halloween Mantel 2013

Here is our Halloween mantel for this year . I have changed it 4 times :) and I think its finally where it will stay ! I used a leaf garland, berry garland, purple and black tulle , and black and white check burlap ribbon for the garlands.

I made this spooky banner out of wood pieces and ribbon I got at Joann Fabrics ..

Painted them with chalkboard paint and used chalk to make a #spookyspaces banner ! I glued ribbon to the top of each board , then used a branch from the yard and glued the ribbons to it. This was a really inexpensive project , the little wood pieces are only 79 cents each !

 The pumpkins are real , I needed a couple pumpkins for the mantel and why go buy fake ones when you have 95 of them in your yard ? I painted the stripes with chalk paint and added crystal glitter .. The Boo pumpkin is white and I used chalkboard paint and glitter. The little Boo sign is another wood piece I painted with chalkboard paint. The candlesticks that the pumpkins sit on were orange and black with a Halloween pirate theme , so I painted them with chalk paint ..

 I made the subway art with foam stamps, acrylic paint and puffy paint on an old board.

 On the fireplace hearth I have this galvanized faux olive bucket , filled with branches. A thrifted silver tray , glued to a stick, was chalkboard painted in the center. I am so loving the whole chalkboard craze !

On the sofa table I have a couple candlesticks topped with a velvet pumpkin , and a couple Halloween characters.. A  little blue wooden box holds a book page pumpkin and some gourds .

 My favorite cross stitch is out for the season on a silver tray with a couple little pumpkin gourds..

 I hung the spooky banner I made a couple years ago on my chalk painted buffet.. I used my cricut to make this banner.

 I made this ghost doll , folded her legs up and placed her on this ceramic cake stand. Added a couple glitter pumpkins and a couple real pumpkin gourds ..on a silver tray.

 My Hallmark ghosts came out again ..5 of them for my 5 kids.. I added a chalkboard painted sign ..
