America The Beautiful

Happy Monday friends!
The chalkboard has been changed up to red, white and blue!
I had a hard time erasing the chicken , she was just too cute !
There's a picket fence with bunting ...of course! Old glory waving in the wind and my favorite red and white stripe flowers.. with blue centers!
This chalkboard is one of my favorite seasonal decorations and gets changed out pretty much every month! The frame was bought at a garage sale and I had a board cut at Home Depot and painted it with chalkboard paint.. It hangs on the wall in my kitchen at the entrance to the family room..

It's hard to believe its almost July ..this summer has gone so quickly so far!

A little Summer Redo

Happy Friday!
I 've stitched all of these four seasons charts by Lizzie Kate , and have redone all of them except Summer until today.. I made the back mat longer so its easier to clip and added some covered buttons..
Here it was before.. just a simple mat of red gingham..

But when I took this one down the basement to redo I knew I wanted to use some of this aqua gingham and wasn't even thinking about the frame being aqua!
So I added another mat to the back of the red gingham and how cute does it look!

Freedom House

Hello Friends!
I finished stitching Freedom House from Little House Needleworks yesterday and finished it up this morning..
The frame is from the Goodwill. It was a mirror in a gold frame... I used black chalk paint and took care of that ugliness :) I used blue homespun check on the bias for the background mat.. and another strip of that blue homespun with some ripped red ticking to make the topper. I chalk painted a wood star and found two metal militaryish looking buttons and added those
I used all the called for colors except the blue and red DMC I substituted Barn Door and Old Blue Jeans from Classic Colorworks. It's stitched on 28 count tea/ coffee dyed evenweave. I also added little buntings in the grass.. the area under the flower pot in red instead of green, and the stars I did red, white and blue instead of the caterpillar.

Yesterday I helped my daughter do a "little" yard work...their house was a repossessed home so it had sat empty for 7 years. This whole mulched are was FULL of WEEDS .. rototilled them...hoed them ..pulled them and this is what we ended up with after a full day of work! It looks so pretty.. there are plants she dug up from my yard plus she bought some ..and 30 bags of mulch!  This will be so pretty when it all fills in ..but what a job! Next week another area will get done if my arms and back stop hurting! :)

Liberty Lane

Hello friends!
Today my daughter finished up Liberty Lane from Country Cottage Needleworks... I started this on Memorial Day with her as a stitch along but I got sidetracked ! :)She brought it over along with a couple of pieces of vintage barn board.. I mounted it on sticky needlework board and then also mounted a piece of the navy ticking on another piece of needlework sticky board. My son-in-law cut the boards and screwed strips on the back to hold them together.
I made a flower from a strip of the ticking with some tea dyed red, white and blue ribbon on top. I ripped strips of navy and dark red check homespun and with a white pom pom trim made bunting for the top. Look how cute it looks on her mantel! Love that barn wood with the original red paint on it!

Patriotic Sheep Stitching..

Hello friends!
Here is my 8th stitchmaynia finish for 2017! I started 24 and this is the 8th I have finished..
With Thy Needle and Thread.. Patriotic Poppies..Isn't it fun?
I used this frame from the thrift store..$1.99 and chalk painted it. I added navy ticking fabric to the back of the frame ..
I made a flower out of red, white and blue striped ribbon that I dyed with coffee . a torn strip of dark red gingham is under the bow,it's stitched on coffee/ tea dyed 28 count evenweave. It ended up being about 9 x 11inches
I did make some floss changes.. the leaves and stems were done with Classic Colorworks Avocado, the sheep in Classic Colorworks Shabby sheep..and the blue on the sheep and flag is Classic Colorworks Blue Corn. love the colors and just the overall piece!

the little poppies I freehand cut from felt and added a little gathering stitch so they were 3 dimensional..

Mrs. Carter's Farm

Hello friends!
Can you stand this cuteness?!?
This Little House Needleworks Mrs. O'Leary's Farm was stitched by my daughter .. We were having a hard time deciding how "we" (me) would finish it .
So today was the big church rummage sale we go to in the next town , and my daughter found this piece for $3.00.. I drew the farm fresh with chalk , and I used magnets and sheet metal to attach the ticking covered sticky board  with the sticthing on top.. to the board in case she wants to use it for a Christmas piece later..
I found the ticking fabric for the background at Hobby Lobby last week.. so it all came together! I used a strip of burlap for the bow , added a stack of twine flowers and a covered button made from the ticking  fabric.. She is also going to replace the knob at the top with a cow head knob.. can't wait to see that!
The fabric was a light Green 14 count ( she has graduated to 28) that we tea/ coffee dyed..and she used all the called for floss. I had seen Michelle Ruedy post this on Instagram with her name instead of Mrs. O'Leary's farm so my daughter also stitched her name ..It is such a great finish , I can't wait to see it in her house! It's so nice when you can find a piece for $3.00 and make it into something wonderful!
Thanks for stopping by!

The Summer Rose Cottage

Good morning!
I am so excited to be able to show you the 2nd design in the Chalk for the Home series ! The chalkboard ..stitchy collaboration between Hands On Design and me! Isn't it just beautiful!
 This is hanging in my
kitchen .. I just got it all finished up yesterday! I stitched mine on black 28 count evenweave and used the called for threads..

The chalkboards I drew, for this design..
Below are Cathy from Hands On Design stitched pieces

I found the chicken wire chalkboard at Hobby Lobby , and use magnets to change it out from Spring to Summer..I found a little bunch of pink roses at Hobby Lobby and used those with the bow at the top.
I hope you all love stitching this one as much as I did ..and  as my almost 3 year old grandson said.. "Gramma that you house ":) I said "my House" ? He said "yes with all the flowers" He is the cutest!

Oh My Stars!

Good morning...happy Monday!
I finished stitching Oh My Stars from Little House Needleworks on Saturday night and finished it up this morning..This was one of my 24 stitchmaynia pieces, and my 7th stitchmaynia finish!
..I used the called for threads except the blue I used Classic Colorworks Dublin Bay instead of the DMC color. It's stitched on 28 count coffee/ tea dyed evenweave.
I found this black frame at the Good will last week for $2.99 ..it's black and distressed so  I didn't have to do a thing to it.

I used the backing for the frame to make a mat for the piece and wrapped it in blue gingham. I mounted the stitching on sticky needlework board and glued that to the mat. I made the trim  from a piece of dark red homespun that I gathered and glued along two sides of the frame . I topped the homespun with some of my twine flowers and covered some buttons in the blue gingham.. I decided it needed to go in the basket on the vintage chair in the foyer ..so its surrounded by a chicken, some daisies and a vintage watering can filled with cotton branches.
( If you copy my finishes or embellishments I would appreciate you giving me credit.. I work hard trying to come up with new and different things and it's only right if you copy to give credit to the person you got the idea from .. it's not hard to do the right thing.. and I would love to see what you create using my ideas!)
Thank you...
