Love/Hate With The Bookshelves

 Good morning !
The snow has finally stopped .. we have alot of digging out to do !
When we did our kitchen and family room remodel 9 years ago we had the mantel built and these bookshelves. My husband has a huge collection of mostly political books that have been on the shelves since they were built..
I hated the way it looked ..and didn;t know how to fix it .. Too many colors on the books and it just looked jumbled ..I would take photos of the mantel for my blog and always leave out the bookshelves ( except at Christmas when I would place Santas in front of the books.
Last Sunday I decided to fix up the shelves .. I took all the dust covers off the books ( they are in a rubbermaid container not getting wreacked :) took out all the paperback books .. turned some of the books around so you see only the pages..
and added some decorative things to pretty it up. You can see the winter mantel here ..
I also took out all the photo frames that weren't kind of neutral in color.
They look so much better .. and now when I walk into the family room I love them instead of just wanting to look away ! :)

This morning as the sun was rising ...
These two are not enjoying the snow :)
Another Prairie Schooler Santa underway
I made these fabulous easy appetizers last night .. A box of frozen puff pastry sheets ..each piece of puff pastry thawed and then  cut into 18 pieces. There are 2 in the boxes I buy. I stretched each piece a little and added a small chunk of mozzarella or colby jack and 3 circles of pepperoni.. I brought the ends together and placed them on parchment paper covered baking sheet .. 425 degrees for 16 minutes and they are amazing ! Dip them in pizza sauce or marinara ..

Thanks so much for your visit !  I Hope you have a wonderful day !

  1. Very clever with the bookshelves!! There is something so comforting about a granny square afghan! I made one years ago and I love it.

  3. Bookshelves are always a challenge to decorate but you have done a great job. I am copying your recipe. I know my hubby will love it. Crazy about your dogs. Bentley's best friend is a Jack Russell named Toby who lives next door. They are great dogs!

  5. Your bookshelf makeover turned out great, Priscilla... To me, a familyroom without books on shelves seems naked!! Books add such a warm and cozy air to a room...

And what a handsome PS Santa you have underway, too!

  6. I think you did a great job with the book shelves. My dear friend in Chicago had 19 inches of snow in her yard!

  7. Priscilla - I never thought of turning our books that way! I always turn them with the spines out. What a great idea! Thx!

  12. Priscilla, the bookcases look amazing! We thought about doing this on the large wall by our fireplace. Opted to just buy an entertainment center. Hasn't come yet, we'll see if I can style it half as good as you did. The appetizer sounds yummy. I pinned it. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
