We Made Flannel Rag Quilts!

 Happy Monday!
So Saturday was a day in the sweat shop kitchen for my daughter Chelsea and I .. we made flannel rag quilts! So fast and easy .. we made 2 of them in an afternoon ...from cutting to sewing and cutting the seams!
Last week I went into Joann Fabrics and they had their flannel for $2.99 a yard and then an extra 20% off ..I had watched a couple You Tube videos on these and thought we would be able to make them very easily..
I chose for us  to do a wintery looking blankets with the plaids and buffalo checks... the only thing I think I did wrong was not buy enough fabric to make them bigger. We can always add to them .. But we did 9 inch squares and did 6 across and 8 down . Probably 7 across 9 down would be better.. But I do like my blankets big!
There is still a lot of excess threads coming off the seams so excuse that .. I am going to wash it again today .. washing is how you get all the seams to "ruffle" there is no binding or batting only 2 layers of flannel.
You sew seam side out then trim every 1/4 inch or so and throw it in the washer. We will definitely be making more of these! Ronnie hasn't left it since it was started .. when we were laying out the squares on the floor she stood on them and we had to move her.. so I guess she gets to be the model in all the photos :)
This is the video I watched for the inspiration to make these...

If you would  like to see what I am up to everyday join me on Instagram and my Facebook page ! I do post on both almost everyday ..Links to my Facebook page , Instagram and Pinterest are in the sidebar .. Hope to see you there ! :)

Your quilts turned out great! If you haven't already washed them, it is a good idea to wash them at a laundromat the first time. The quilt will shed a ton of threads and you don't want to clog up your drain. Laundromats have heavy duty filters on their washers that most home washing machines don't have.

Oh, those look so warm and cozy! Perfect colors for you two :) I'm sure the pups will love cuddling up in them, too!

i love your fabric choices. i just made my first rag quilt using the same tutortial. i made it for my sisters first baby! i snipped the squares before sewing all together using 8 inch with a 1 inch seam - was easy. cant wait to do another. i like that it doesnt have to be so perfect. thats my style

Did you wash and dry your fabric first?

This looks like alot of fun. I think I'm going try his. I couldn't tell if she opened up her seams or just laid them to the side. What I'd you do? Enjoyed your latest video and especially the frame with the chicken wire. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
