Faux Chalkboard Table Runner and Burlap Centerpiece

Today I am showcasing my Joann Fabrics #turkeytablescapes project ! Since chalkboards and burlap are so popular I used both !! Come on into the dining room ! This will be our first Thanksgiving with our newly remodeled dining room and new dining room set ! I am so excited about this project !
I made this tablerunner from 2 yards of black broadcloth ,and just sewed a 2 inch seam, down the length of the fabric.turned right side out and ironed it... you could even use fabric glue if you don't sew.. I then tried to use white paint markers but those were not giving the look of chalk.. I ended up using acrylic paint and 2 different sized brushes .
I freehanded the whole thing , and tried to make both sides pretty even :)
Can I tell you how much I LOVE it !!! Doesn't it look like a chalkboard ? So exciting !

I sewed burlap strips to the ends, just pinned and sewed ..you could also just use fabric glue.

For the centerpiece I used a wire wreath form and burlap rolls.. It took about 1-1/2 burlap rolls for the wreath centerpiece.
You just make loops in the wire weaving them into each section and keep scrunching them down to make it really full.. couldn't be any easier ! No glue no nothing ,it just stays ..

Once the wreath was completed I added a glass cloche to the center with a crocheted pumpkin  ..I did make it larger than this , and added a real dried pumpkin stem ! I did not glue anything into the wreath so I can reuse it for some other holidays !
I also used the burlap wreath idea to make name tags for the seats .. Are they not just the cutest ! I found the little chalkboards in the wood section at Joanns.. I just looped burlap strips thru the wreath over the chair backs and stapled them together
I added some fall picks to the burlap wreath ..They are almost black berries ...go perfectly! And they were 70 % off !!
I do have a confession to make , I don't do Thanksgiving decorations! By Thanksgiving my Christmas has been up for about 2 weeks ! But with this being black and white I can use it for Thanksgiving ..So for the first time in a long time Thanksgiving will be on the table :)
You can find all the burlap , wire wreath forms, fall picks, fabric and acrylic paint at Joann Fabrics ! This is one of my favorite projects EVER and I appreciate Joann Fabrics inviting me to participate ! I received compensation for this post , but all opinions are my own .. Here is a coupon and a link to Joann Fabrics Craft Catalog ..

The Thanksgiving projects came out great! I think your faux chalkboard idea is going to be a very popular technique for other crafters to try!

I really like your table runner for Thanksgiving. You did a terrific job on it and it does look like chalk on it. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh, Priscilla, I love your chalkboard table runner and those wreaths on the backs of your chairs! I'm so glad you admitted that you don't usually decorate for Thanksgiving! I'm taking down fall today to get ready for Christmas!

What a fabulous project! I love everything you did and the runner is fantastic and yes it does look just like chalk! The chairs are wonderful too.
I agree, decorating for Thanksgiving just isn't my thing, but I always try to have pumpkins for the quick two weeks between all our fun for Halloween and the Christmas decor. Glad to hear someone else admit it! Come say hello. I came over from TTT.
